Airbag light on after an accident: crash data explained
After a collision, many airbag control modules store crash data and stop the airbag warning light from being cleared. The module then has to be replaced or have the crash data cleared on the bench.
First: repair the car properly
- The restraint system must be inspected and repaired after the accident, with deployed or damaged airbags, pretensioners, crash sensors and wiring replaced as required.
- Where the manufacturer's repair method allows it, clearing crash data from the module can form part of a proper repair — never a substitute for it.
What we do
- We work on the airbag control module only. No airbags, inflators, pretensioners or pyrotechnic parts are supplied or accepted.
- The module's memory is read in full and backed up before any reset. The stored crash data is cleared and the original coding is kept.
- We cover only the makes and part numbers listed on our SRS page. We don't offer crash data reset for German marques.
What to send
- The airbag control module only, packed in an anti-static bag.
- A label photo first so we can confirm your part number is covered.
