BMW and MINI FRM3 footwell module dead after a battery change
The FRM3 footwell module is well known for failing after the battery goes flat, is disconnected or the car is jump-started. The lights, indicators or windows suddenly stop working.
Symptoms
- No headlights, side lights or indicators.
- Windows or mirrors not working.
- FRM not communicating with the diagnostic tool.
Why it happens
- A low-voltage event can corrupt the memory the FRM3 keeps its settings in, so the module stops working even though the hardware is fine.
The fix
- Restore the module's data on the bench, or transfer it into a matching FRM, so your original coding is kept.
- Send a label photo so we can confirm the version first.
Questions
Do I need a new FRM?
Often not — the data can usually be restored on your original unit.
Need it checked?
Send your part number and a label photo — we'll tell you whether it's a repair or a clone, and the price, before you post.
