Ford PATS immobiliser: no start after changing a module
Ford's PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) links your keys to the car's modules. Swap one of those modules for a used unit and the car usually cranks but won't start — the PATS light stays on or flashes.
Why it happens
- The used module contains another car's PATS data, so it doesn't recognise your keys or engine ECU.
- Code P1260 (theft detected, vehicle immobilised) is commonly stored in the engine ECU.
The fix
- Transfer your original module's data into the replacement (cloning), so it carries your car's PATS data. In most cases the car then starts with your existing keys.
- Or have a dealer or locksmith program the replacement in the car — which needs the car, the tools and usually all the keys.
What to send
- Your original module (even if faulty) and the replacement with the same part number.
- A label photo first so we can confirm the part number and price.
Questions
Do you program keys?
No. We transfer data between matching modules. We don't program keys to modules posted to us.
Need it checked?
Send your part number and a label photo — we'll tell you whether it's a repair or a clone, and the price, before you post.
